WeChat, in Chinese, Weixin, is a mobile texe and voice messaging communication service. WeChat began as a project at Tencent(騰訊) in Oct 2010. The original name of the APP, “Weixin”, was invented by Zhang Xiaolong, and named by Ma Huateng, Tencent CEO. And it was first released in January 2011.

And a machine translation service is available, too.

In May 2011, WeChat had 4 to 5 million users, and by the end of 2011, it had 50 million users. WeChat had more than 100 million users by March 2012. WeChat had 438 million active users by the Augest of 2014, with 70 million outside of China.
