Sydney Trains is one of the most economical, reliable and convenient ways to travel throughout Sydney and its surrounds.
Our network, the NSW Trains Intercity, covers suburban Sydney and extends to the Hunter, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and South Coast regions.
The network is made up of several colour-coded lines. Trains from different lines can share the same platform, so check display screen and listen to announcements.
Ticket prices are generally based on the distance traveled. You can visit Transportnsw. Info for details.
Getting to the City
In Sydney, if you’re near a train station, you’re on your way to the city. Every rail line leads directly or indirectly to the City Circle. It’s the loop around the central business district of Sydney. Most City stations are underground so look out for the sign on street level.
Automatic ticket gates
Large stations have automatic gates for entry to, and exit from, the station. If you have an Opal card or a ticket which has a magnetic stripe (磁條) you must use the automatic gates. You may use the wide gate for wheelchair, pram or luggage access. Station staff will assist you.
Night Ride buses
Most trains do not operate between midnight and 4:00 a.m. For your convenience a special Night Ride bus service is available between these hours on most Sydney suburban lines.
Track work
In order for the tracks to the maintained, we sometimes have to replace train with buses, particularly at weekends. Please check the track work section for the latest service changes on your line.

Most heroes are not super. They don’t appear in comic books, on television, or in movies. They just do what they believe needs to be done to make their world a better place. Bike Batman is one of them.
Bike Batman is a 30-year-old married engineer who lives in Seattle, Washington. He’s a cyclist who also buys and sells bikes as a hobby.
About three years ago, he was looking for a bike for his wife. He found one on Craigslist, a website where people list things they want to sell. As he often does, he also looked at Bike Index, a popular website that allows users to register their bikes and post reports when they’re taken. The bike, which he was considering purchasing, clearly matched one reported stolen on Bike Index. Then he called the person who claimed to be the bike’s owner and arranged to meet him— supposedly to complete the sale. When the two men met, Bike Batman told the thief, “You’ve got two options. You can wait until a police officer gets here, or you can just get out of here.” You can imagine what the thief did.
After that first success, Bike Batman developed a safer routine. When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist, he cross-references the image with bikes reported on Bike Index. Once he has confirmed it with the owner, he arranges a meet-up with the thief and will call the Seattle police department so that officers can participate in the action. In more than half of the 22 cases in which he has got back and returned bikes, the thieves have been arrested. In one case, Bike Batman even helped a family recover a wide range of prized possessions that suspects had stolen during a home burglary.
His nickname came from a discussion with a police officer who suggested he be called “Robin Hood”. Since he wasn’t exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, “Batman” seemed a better fit. The idea of a superhero punishing criminals feels pretty silly to him, but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle’s reputation as a friendly city.
24. What is Bike Batman?
A. A superhero. B. A website manager. C. A Seattle citizen. D. A police officer.
25. What will Bike Batman first do when he discovers a questionable bike?
A. Arrange to meet the thief.
B. Call the police department.
C. Contact the owner of the stolen bike.
D. Look up the bike’s information on Bike Index.
26. Why does Bike Batman help find the lost bikes?
A. To become famous. B. To help poor people.
C. To punish bike thieves. D. To build a friendly city.
27. What can we learn from the passage?
A. the thieves refused to return the bikes.
B. the police failed to perform their duties.
C. Bike Batman began his good deeds by accident.
D. Bike Batman felt relieved to see the thieves arrested.

I have two kids, a boy and a girl. I don’t worry about my girl; I’m sure she’ll be well trained in mixed martial arts. I worry about my son. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be feminine (女性化的). Sorry to say that, but let’s face it. No dad wants his son to go feminine.
At the rate we’re moving in a couple of years you won’t be able to tell the difference between boys and girls. Sound extreme? Think about this. In every movie where advanced time-traveling beings come to our planet, there’s one constant: You can’t tell the male aliens from the female aliens!
But that’s the future. Kids today are soft and fat. People ask why. Is it junk food? No. Junk food has been around for fifty years. Is it video games? No. Video games have been around for thirty years. None of the kids playing them back in the day were terribly obese. We’re all scratching our heads trying to figure out what we’ve introduced to society to ruin our kids. But it’s not anything we’ve added that has ruined our kids. It’s stuff we’ve gotten rid of.
Take the gym rope for example. Remember that thing that stretched from the floor to the ceiling in your gym class that you could never climb? Most of the kids couldn’t make it to the top. But that wasn’t the point; the point was that you had to try while some middle-aged guy who couldn’t make it up a flight of stairs shouted at you. We should have put our son on that rope, and given him a head start. But we didn’t want to shame the boy, so we took it down.
Taking down the rope would be a good idea if there were no ropes in life. But they’re everywhere. You just can’t see them. They’re in every goal unrealized and expectation not met. The point everyone missed about the rope is you weren’t supposed to make it to the top. It was there to create a fire that burned in the oversize belly of every kid.
28. What is the example of aliens used to show?
A. Boys are going feminine.
B. Girls are growing like boys.
C. There are really time-traveling beings.
D. Alien movies are popular with children.
29. What causes kids today to be soft and fat?
A. Junk food. B. Video games.
C. Stuff introduced to society. D. Things removed from society.
30. How does the author find teenagers today?
A. They have too much dignity. B. They are overprotected.
C. They are less independent. D. They are too highly thought of.
31. What does the rope probably symbolize?
A. Goals. B. Expectations. C. Competition. D. Assistance.

Google’s new camera, called Clips, is a small, smart device. It comes with a case that has a clip (夾子), but it’s not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photography out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own.
This roughly 2-inch by 2-inch camera, with a three-hour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smartphone.
Onboard the Clips device, it uses machine learning algorithms ( 計(jì) 算 程 序 ) to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. “Once it learns that there’s a face you see frequently, it’ll try to get nice photos of those faces,” said Juston Payne, the device’s product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, which involved “training it to know what happiness looks like”. The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shoot—like when a child’s hand is over the lens, or if it is tossed in a dark purse.
The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing.
Were people concerned it could seem strange? Yes, Payne admitted. But they said they addressed that by making it obvious what it is. A green light on the front signals that it is on. Besides, unlike a camera meant to monitor your home, it is not connected to the Internet.
“This product is only possible because of the way that silicon has advanced,” Payne said, noting that it was only in the past year or so that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. Going forward, we’re likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps and gadgets.
32. What is the most outstanding feature of Clips?
A. It is equipped with tough glass. B. It enables easy Internet access.
C. It allows of hands-free photography. D. It can be worn on your clothing.
33. What does the underlined word “candid” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Brief. B. Touching. C. Unforgettable. D. Embarrassing.
34. What makes Clips a reality according to Juston Payne?
A. The popularity of the Internet. B. The advance in technology.
C. The rise of the smartphone industry. D. The reduction in the price of lens.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. A New Digital Camera from Google. B. New Gadgets in the Age of Apps.
C. Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life. D. An Alternative Way to Photograph.

A dog’s mind is only equal to that of a two-year-old baby. 36 Therefore, they are probably the first to notice any change in the behavior of their masters. Let’s do some deep-digging to understand the amazing ability of a dog.
They sense your feelings. Isn’t it strange? 37 This is true. A study published in the Animal Cognition journal says that dogs are known to come to people who appear sad or depressed. It doesn’t matter if the person is their owner or a stranger. They have an ability to sense sadness and are attached to troubled souls.
38 Dogs can easily tell when you’re playing with favorites, and if you reward or play more with other pets, your dog might notice it and feel uncomfortable. As they can’t say how they feel, they will scratch, yawn or lick their mouths.
They smell fear. Let’s say you’re faced with your worst fear. Would you get scared and run away or just face it? Before choosing how to deal with it, you should remember one thing. 39 Research shows that dogs often sense their masters’ responses in dangerous situations. If you fear something and choose to back away, chances are that your pet is going to do the same thing.
They’re watching you. We are all raised as respectable individuals who are taught to respect elders, obey the law and help out people in need from time to time. 40 But if you have a dog at home, it is time to be serious about them. Dogs like generous people. So just be careful around your pet; it may judge you on how you behave with others.
A. They sense health problems.
B. They understand when ignored.
C. They know when no one’s looking at them.
D. You would be setting an example to your pet.
E. Every time you feel sad, you dog just know it.
F. But dogs are able to sense everything around them.
G. However, not all of us take these three things seriously.

One possible version:
Dear Peter,
I’m sorry to learn that you have been suffering headaches, which prevent you from performing well in your work. Worse still, you haven’t got better after taking medicine. Therefore I’m writing to recommend Chinese medicine to you.
From my perspective, Chinese medicine is superior to western medicine in a sense. Producing fewer side effects is typical of Chinese medicine. If time permits, patients can recover completely. In addition, Chinese medicine is less expensive, so you don’t need to worry about your budget. I believe the treatment is a great choice for you.
Hope you will recover soon. If there is anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Sorry, I was out shopping yesterday and left my phone at home. I saw that you had called when I got back and I tried to call you back, so your phone was off.
M: Yeah, I went to a concert, so I turned my phone off.
W: So what’s up?
M: I wanted to invite you to my sister’s wedding next Saturday. Would you like to be my guest?
W: Sure. I bought a present for her yesterday next Saturday. Would you like to be my guest?
M: Sure. The wedding begins at 2:00 pm. I’ll come and pick you up forty minutes before that.
W: Could you come twenty minutes earlier than that? Megan is going to the wedding, too, and she needs a lift.
M: No problem. See you next Saturday.

W: I’m Alexandra Grace, Educator at New Zealand Embassy Beijing. Today I will give you a brief introduction of New Zealand’s higher education. Small as it may be, New Zealand offers quality higher education opportunities, with two thirds of its higher education institutes within the top 10 of QS World University Rankings 2014. What makes New Zealand’s universities stand out is their abilities to provide high-end education.
Though Chinese students form the largest international student group in New Zealand, the country only ranks the 7th on Chinese students’ most desirable overseas destination list. The size of the country prevents it becoming a hot study destination. But it draws students with its safe and multi-cultural environment.
While it attracts mainly wealthy students, higher education in New Zealand is also affordable for many common Chinese families. Chinese students can get a British-based education with the school fee being some of the lowest in the world. On average, the school fee was about 25, 000 dollars per year, and the living costs were about 20, 000 dollars a year. Besides, students can do some part-time jobs. The money earned in those jobs is enough for them to travel around the country and enjoy its breath-taking scenery.
